In other news, water is wet.
IT guy here.. everything is running on systems that are 40 years old which have been frankensteined in the most horrible manner possible to keep them running for the bare minimum cost at the time, resulting in people like me spending our days just patching it as it breaks.
Security and backups... two most important aspects of IT, *especially* if you have sensitive data. Also the two things that are ignored because "yeah that costs money so fuck that, I'm sure I'll have changed jobs before the shit hits the fan".
IT... what have they ever done for us. Don't give them any more funds or training. They don't need it; my e-mail is still working just fine.
It's impressive how fast and loose these gigantic corporations run at the office level. Friend of mine and I worked at differ fortune 500 companies and we're both convinced that if they were small businesses they would have collapsed from mismanagement and administration bloat.
Not all security measures require money.
For example, changing your login from admin/admin to a unique user/password combination costs pretty close to zero.
What is this referring to?
Im fortunate to work for a CEO that has vision. We're a mid size business with about 60 employees but i've gotten approval to replace our servers ever 10 years and update the OS when new versions come out. We're running Win Server 2016 on 3 of our servers and UBUNTU server on the other 3. All PC's are Windows 10, fully patched, and locked through GPOs to only allow the employee access to what they need to do their job. Same deal for the firewalls, nothing comes in or goes out that isn't intended. If we can do it.. these massive juggernauts really have no excuse.
