42 42aaac71fb3f45cc60 Republicans have a ~~veto proof~~ majority in ~~both houses~~ the House and the Senate and hold the presidency but tell me again how ~~this is the Democrats fault.~~ it requires 60 votes to pass legislation out of the Senate and there are only 51 Republican Senators.
11 SilverState815 Veto-proof majority, huh?

5 inhuman44 The scariest thing about this shutdown is finding out how poorly Americans understand how their own democracy works. A "veto-proof majority"? I'm not even American and I know stupid that sounds. Though, not as bad as all the idiots I've seen on /r/news who don't know what a filibuster is.
18 f_youropinion 60 votes were needed. Republicans have 51 seats. 5 Democrats voted yes.
13 PM_ME_A_GOOD_STEAK Why can’t we be pissed at both of them for being so stubborn? Hate this blame game
-1 UtahMan81 Not veto proof, but when republicans want to screw over future generations with tax cuts for the wealthy, they make sure they get that done.
1 rinnip A "veto-proof majority" requires one party to have 2/3 of the seats in both houses of Congress. Republicans have 51 out of 100 senate seats. I don't know what the count is in the House, but I doubt that it is 2/3.
