I got struck by lightning up there and almost died.

Hint for others, if you descend the hiking trail from the top , about a half mile back there's a cool subalpine area with a bunch of fir trees. Entire area smells of Christmas. Halfway back there, along the trail, are also some big wild blackberry bushes.

Fun fact: the Appalachian Mountains used to be as high as the Rockies before they were eroded.
This is one of my favorite places! It gets buried in snow every winter (by NC standards at least) and the dude who discovered it died trying to prove that it was the highest peak east of the Mississippi River.
