Hi Nigel, how did you get into this? Did it start with the technical aspects or being a creative that got into robots/physics?
A more controversial question to ask, did psydelics or other drugs/experience influence your sounds? I often find myself pondering the things i learned in my physics of sound class (where i was introduced to cymatics) when i trip on mushrooms. Sound always seems important to whatever experience i may be having.
What inspired you to create the type of music that you produce and what are you trying to achieve with your style? Do you find purpose in pushing the limits of tech and the medium of music composition?
Thank you for doing this AMA
Unlike your previous albums you had tracks with vocals in Automatica. What was the motive/reasoning?
Do you plan on doing collaborations with other artists (Jean-Michelle-Jarre perhaps)?
Also silly question, but when can we expect your next masterpiece?!
Thank you for your amazing music, and I’ll be enjoying your albums until your next release!!
My question may be silly. BUT. Why did you call yourself John earlier, and now you're Nigel? Is this somehow connected to your creation?
hi there! 3 questions.
1. did your interest in automata stem from an interest in performative techniques that surpass human ability? how do you use robots in a way that people cannot be used? (I'm thinking about Nancarrow)
2. how do your instrumentalities inform your musical aesthetic? how do you play off of the established sound of the genre, and how do you deviate?
3. have you tried creating your own instrument? what would it be (or is it already)?
really, really cool stuff.
Have you considered making a cymatics 2 that goes more in depth with the visuals? I love the video and show it to all sorts of people, but feel your just scratching the surface.
And one more question. Automatica logo is great! Did you make it by yourself? And the robot from "One hundred hunters" video?
I'm a HUGE fan! I've listened to TimeScapes and Solar Echoes probably a hundred times each. Have you ever considered making video game soundtracks?
What is the very best dessert?
Do you make videos and music full-time? If not, what do you do with the rest of your time?
Hi Nigel! Love your music - hope you'll come tour in LA some time. Do you have any plans to release your music on vinyl? What are your thoughts on the analog medium?
Hi, Nigel! I am a really big fan of your music. I really loved Cymatics and Automatica. Each of the experiments in Cymatics were amazing, and each of the robotics in Automatica were way cool to watch. How did you come up with the ideas for both Cymatics and Automatica?
