Not a direct recipient, but my son was.
1. Cancer. Autologous stem cell transplant
2. Around $175,000. But this was almost 20 years ago
3. No. The tumor grew during the transplant period
4. Can't recommend or steer people away. Very individualized.
Go look up Dr Neil Riordan. He has a clinic down in Panama that treats a variety of hard-to-treat conditions using Mesenchymal stem cells.
It’s a possibility I’ll need it in the future but I haven’t had it yet. If the chemo doesn’t kill all my non-hodgkins lymphoma then stem cell treatment/bone marrow transplant is the next step. Likely in conjunction with radiation. They say there are less adverse side effects if I use my own marrow for it as opposed to a relatives.
It would be done at the cancer center through my oncologist. My Medi-Cal (California’s free medical insurance for poor people) would supposedly cover it.
Don’t know if this has been helpful or not.
