About American Idiot: you may not like it, but it’s hard to argue that it’s a serious accomplishment. It’s a concept album from a pop-punk band. It’s catchy as hell while also being lyrically and musically interesting. It’s impeccably recorded and produced. AND it was put together after the band lost an entire album of material.
I think it’s easy to dismiss because it’s Green Day, and its weakest song (“Boulevard of Broken Dreams”) was its most popular, and it made the band into superstars, and it was followed by an almost entirely forgettable attempt to recapture the magic. But in a vacuum, holy fuck is it a great album. “Jesus of Suburbia” is honestly one of the best rock songs written in the last 20 years.
I’m actually kind of impressed that Rolling Stone wasn’t too hipster to acknowledge it (especially given how many fucking times Radiohead shows up on the list).
I feel like Demon Days should be up there.
How is QOTSA Songs for the Deaf not on the list? I love Rated R too but no SFTD?
Amnesiac before In Rainbows? That seems a bit of a stretch.
Tv on the radio are the best band most people don't know about.
Yeezy with 2 on top 10? 🌊
Glad Funeral is top 3, that shit changed the landscape for indies.
TWO Kayne west albums in the top ten holy shit
It's not bad, but Lateralus should be there. My personal list would have Crack the Skye as well.
i'm part of that small minority that thinks amnesiac is better than kid a
I think Frank was the better Amy Winehouse album.
Glad to see Is This It? so high. That's my personal favorite album of all time. Not a bad song on it.
How in the hell is Hybrid Theory not on this list? Best selling album of 2001, one of the top selling albums of the entire decade, one of the best selling debut albums of all time, and one of the top charting albums of the entire decade as well.
I detect an unsettling lack of Muse.
American Idiot too high.
Glad to see the Hives get recognition.
The Eminem Show > The Marshall Mathers LP.
No Silent Alarm?
I would also add Madvillainy and Demon Days.
All things considered, this is a pretty decent list.
good albums but in my opinion these are by no means representative of the best music or even the most iconic. like half the hip-hop entries in here are Kanye which I feel is just kind of lazy given some of the most enduring & highly acclaimed hip-hop albums of all time such as Madvillainy or Food & Liquor or Below the Heavens or any of the Roots' albums during the period spawned from the decade. also even as a huge RHCP fan I don't feel that Stadium Arcadium really deserves to be here when, imo, there are clear standouts on the album & a lot of it is fairly unremarkable.
Pretty good list. Kind of feel like Demon Days and Muse’s absolution should have been on it though
My only real complaint is a lack of any sort of metal.
No Nick Cave? That guy’s recorded some ridiculously good stuff this century.
Top 5 should be
Kid A by Radiohead
In Rainbows by Radiohead
Hail To The Thief by Radiohead
Third by Portishead
Amnesiac by Radiohead
I'm not biased.
