On the upside it doesn't look like it did a lot of damage. Perhaps his insurance company can go after the neighboring property (the one the tree was on before it fell) for subrogation.
I'm no arborist, but that tree looks as if it should have come down a long time ago, especially that close to the house.
That tree has been dead a long time; should have been brought down long ago.
