How does Valentine's Day compare to any other day of the week or holidays for taxis? That particular V-Day was on a Friday, so wouldn't there be plenty of people out and about in NYC anyway? The map looks cool but leaves me wondering if there's a comparison available.
I wonder why a huge surge of blue in the morning close to park. Are there many offices there or do people go to the park on the V-day ?
There are people getting picked up in the Hudson. I guess Yellow Cabs are doing anything they can to beat Uber!
I love maps and had so much fun playing around with this data set. Hope you guys like the result. Happy Valentine's Day!
**Tools:** Microsoft Excel, Adobe Premiere
**Data:** NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission
**Edit:** Thank you all very much for the constructive criticism as well! I am not a professional data scientist at all (this is just a hobby) so I'm sure this visualization has *lots* of flaws. Also apologies if the "fluffy" title offended you guys; I thought it was cute and lighthearted but I should have gone with something more straightforward. Totally agree that this isn't exactly groundbreaking analysis and recognize your very valid critiques--just wanted to share some beautiful data with my favorite subreddit. Thanks again! :)
This visualization has some next level graphics. Impressive stuff!
We need a control here, as I'm sure someone else has already said. How is this different from any non-Valentine's day?
It looks like there's a lot more yellow than blue. Where are all those people who got picked up but never dropped off? 0.o
