Great situational combat move when you are fighting a man, his wife, their 7 year old, and their 4 year old in a line.
I would have managed a single kick... To the girl's face
Taekwondo practitioner here. This kick is not intended for combat purposes and is used for demonstration purposes. TKD nowadays have focused a lot on performances that combine TKD and acrobatics/tricking to create an eye catching performance. Look up K-Tigers for examples
Fuck me dead, look at all the neck beard armchair warriors talking about practicality
ITT: People don't understand practice. This won't work in a fight, college algebra won't help you in everyday life and batting practice gets you 0 points. They are all practicing skills that will be applied to later challenges.
His name is **Kim Kaphwan**
I’m really curious as to how effective this would realistically be in combat. Is it something people have historically used? Or just something flashy?
WHY ARE THINGS ON REDDIT NORMAL SPEED WHEN I WANT THEM SLOWED DOWN AND SLOWED DOWN WHEN I WANT THEN NORMAL SPEED?
What people are falsely assuming on here is that the practitioner thinks that this is practical. He probably knows it’s not. It’s obvious it’s not practical and none of you that are saying this are saying anything that everyone doesn’t already know. That’s not the goal of the guy doing the series of kicks. It’s pretty much athletics and testing/showing off skill and technique. Plus, it’s probably as fun for the guy as for a gymnast who is doing some incredible acrobatic stunt. And yes, the force generated by the kicks is probably negligible for practicality sake.
The martial arts world needs a lot less style-criticizing, know-it-all MMA bros. I respect MMA a lot, there are just lot douchey bros out there too. I could same the same thing about practicality with a standard arm bar on the ground. Most people will be able to get out of it and see it coming, but I don’t see people trolling Jiu Jitsu pages about that. Don’t get me wrong, I like doing arm bars too, I just know all techniques and styles have limitations (hence why I respect MMA)
Likewise, a number of cultish WTF TKD people do buy into believing all TKD techniques are practical for self defense. I know the sparring is made for olympics, but still, I really don’t like sporty aspect of it.
For reference, I dabble in a number of styles myself.
