TIL Keanu Reeves was sued by a woman who suggested that he used hypnosis and impersonated her ex-husband to impregnate her. She sought $3 million in spousal support from the actor, and $150,000/month, retroactively, in child support. DNA test proved he was not the father and the suit was thrown out.

1 _red_witch_ when the system doesnt offer a solution to poverty, we are forced to find means outside that system. why does the US have the highest incarceration rate of any country? because it's profitable and serves as a means of control for those of the population that are most likely to be revolutionary because they have been made the most desperate by that system. support that shit and i delet bb.
2784 baltimoretom The 13th admendment allows for slavery if they're convicted criminals. > Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

106 droopus Oh gosh, that's the tip of the iceberg. Ever hear of [UNICOR?](https://www.unicor.gov/index.aspx) UNICOR is the Federal prison industries. One of the plum jobs in a fed prison is UNICOR, as you can make more than the usual $5.25 per MONTH other compound jobs earn. There are 75 full UNICOR factories spread around the country in various fed prisons. If you work for UNICOR for over 10 years, you can make up to $55 per month. The average UNICOR worker earns about $10 a month for a 40 hour week. UNICOR workers make clothes, office furniture, cable, electronic components, run call centers, do data entry, and in many other manufacturing and service-based sectors. They then compete with American companies who have to pay their workers actual wages. You an office manager? Do you need good office furniture? Well, [UNICOR](https://www.unicor.gov/Shopping/viewCat_m.asp?iStore=UNI&idCategory=1417) will sell you oak desks for next to nothing, built by essentially ...slave labor. Your job depends on keeping costs low. Are you going to buy from UNICOR or Office Depot for ten times the price? But here's the kicker. It costs about $65,000 to keep a fed inmate for a year, depending on security level - less for Low, much more for Max. So we taxpayers are paying the Bureau of Prisons (DOJ) to support workers, who work for slave wages to make products that the DOJ sells. Now THAT'S a scandal no one ever mentions, isn't it? ED: Click "Legal" on the UNICOR site and you [get this.](https://www.justice.gov/legalpolicies) Note the convenient links on the right-hand side. [Source: I did five years in feds.]
544 Werefoofle >But thanks to Reaganomics, prisons turned to profits >Cause free labor is the cornerstone of US economics >Cause slavery was abolished, unless you are in prison >You think I am bullshitting, then read the 13th Amendment >Involuntary servitude and slavery it prohibits >That's why they giving drug offenders time in double digits - Killer Mike - Reagan
222 ThePlagueofCustom Albany is like a lot of places in America: large deteriorated inner city, large minority and college population, burgeoning hipster wealth and surrounded by rural, white poverty. It creates a dangerous mixture for the social structure of the city. Minority population feels that the police are working for other people against them.
157 watanabelover69 That just sounds like slavery with extra steps.
