All of the ones I've been to in the south east got rid of their fish tanks and stopped selling fish. Except for the single shelf with 10 - 20 cups of betta stew. I think they should stop selling live animals altogether if they aren't going to care for them.
That one fish that looks still alive. Living in pure hell surrounded by the corpses of his best friends.
If you haven’t, report it to corporate. My friend who loves fish was tired of seeing fish like this at Walmart and contacted corporate and the before and after is astonishing. You wont get them to stop selling fish but you can at least get them to care for the fish they do have to the best of their ability.
I worked at a Walmart in the Midwest for a few months between undergrad and graduate school. I was a low level employee in the pet department which included catching fish for customers. I wasn't too invested in the job and would often times skip stocking shelves so that I could clean the fish tanks instead. Those fish were the only things getting me through a shift on most nights.
Are fish covered by animal abuse laws?
I actually see this as /r/rage material rather than just /r/mildlyinfuriating.
Holy shit that is seriously bad. I know a UK pet store (Pets At Home?) got into serious trouble just for having some dead fish left in the tanks... This is rediculous.
I didn't even know Walmart sold fish, they don't where I live but I'm in the Midwest. This is horribke
Report up the chain. The Walmart where I live have spotless tanks and all the fish are alive.
Snellvile Ga Walmart, I'm calling you out on here. Last time I went there, the fish obviously hadn't been fed in a long time. I didn't know fish could become emaciated. Many were dead but it wasn't corpses in the water, it was skeletons. Some were being eaten before they were even fully dead. Got one because I needed one for a shoal I already had but he was too far gone already, didn't have the energy to move or eat, was dead in 2 days.
What the fuck, why don't they clean it out? I work in retail, and that's is not a fucking representable Product! Who would want to buy a fish from that?!
And awww poor fishies, rip, I'd die every time if I had to walk by that.
