1575 FlexGunship I've been there before. That cathedral is MUCH larger than it looks in this photo. EDIT: I drove in from Dusseldorf (was there on business, heard about the cathedral). I decided to park once I felt I was close enough to it. It was looming so large that I couldn't see the top from inside the rental car. Figured that was good. Parked. Got out. And proceeded to walk about a mile more to get to it. It's sooo huge. https://static.thousandwonders.net/Cologne.Cathedral.original.22182.jpg https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/0b/Cologne_cathedral_aerial_%2825326253726%29.jpg/275px-Cologne_cathedral_aerial_%2825326253726%29.jpg
571 TheDporter Still remember climbing the spiral staircase as a kid and being amazed how the stone of each step had been rubbed away where the majority of each step was hit.
355 TooShiftyForYou Cologne Cathedral, the spires are the largest façade on any church in the world.
763 nowthappens91 Bad draw distance?
1641 gadmouse It's cool how they built it so close to the station, so it's the first thing you see in Köln.
104 ryleto I live around the corner from the Cathedral and its awe-inspiring whenever i see it, even after being here for a year. You can see the Dom from most of Cologne and it's a great way to navigate back to the centre haha! I'm originally from a small town in the UK and Cologne is the first place i've lived outside of my parents home. I honestly can't express just what a beautiful city this place is, the Cathedral really is just a small part of an overall amazing place. I really recommend people visit Köln Edit: also really cool thing, right near the Dom is an access door to an underground car park and there’s just some old roman house ruins chilling in there. What the hell! Haha
149 ChristopherClarkKent Great shot! Sometimes it's foggy enough that you can't even see the top of the tower, that's really something that makes you feel extremely small as one tiny human.
39 mdhens In 1979, I was traveling and had to change trains in Cologne. Had some time to kill between trains, so I decided to have a look around the cathedral. That place is HUGE! Long story short- got lost inside and wandered around for nearly two hours before I found my way out. Missed my train, but got to see one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Europe.
92 Fairien When I was 20, I traveled to Germany to meet some friends and fell in love with the Dom and Köln and I loved the bridge next to it filled with love locks. After that, I returned to the US and met a German man through an online gaming group several years later. When I was 24, after a two year friendship, I flew to Germany to meet him - I told him that I wanted to meet him under the Dom. I sat waiting near the top of the steps of the cathedral, hoping I would be able to spot him in the crowd coming out of the station. I could feel my heart in my chest while I searched. Turns out, he had gotten there early and walked around before I got there, and came from the opposite direction - I believe that he walked right past me down to the bottom of the steps to wait for me by the station. When I saw him, I waved and shouted, and he came up the steps quickly. We grabbed each others arms and looked at each other - figuring out if we were really the same people we had known for years online. I moved to kiss him and he stopped me to say his first words to me in person. "I know we've never met before, but I think I'm in love with you." And then he kissed me. The whole flight and train I was so worried that something would be off, one of us wouldn't be attracted to the other, we wouldn't like each other's smell. All blown away in an instant under the cathedral. Thank you Dom, for giving me one of the best memories of my life.
