Hi, I need you to do this for me and I won't pay you or even donate to others who don't have a Bentley.
You take "payment" by letting people donate to a charity? That's the coolest thing I've heard of in a while... The world needs more people like you.
To be fair to him, I do understand why it might be unexpected to have to pay for DM services.
Which is why I put that in bold everywhere on my website and before my contact info... and try to keep my prices reasonable...
"Can't afford that :/"
Well too goddamn motherfucking bad.
It's not food or access to a toilet, it's entertainment! I create assets for tabletop games and I get people that message me trying to get free shit like this all the time and they really don't understand why you would need to be paid for your time. "Just give me it for free, lul."
If you want a free DM make some friends in the community but know that you'll probably still have to host or bring a food item or something. Nobody gets to play for free, it's a social activity and communal and no one wants to be that weird guy that just freeloads and acts like a dick all the time when asked to put cash into the pot for supplementals or paper minis or whatever. And that fee is usually shared across like 5 people or more, ffs!
Sorry for getting angry I've seen so many people come down hard on good DMs that run entertaining games that are just trying to make a little money on the side. I dated a guy and running two games was like his second job. He'd sit down each night and do work on it to make sure everyone had a good time, and if you run a good game I think you should be able to ask for money for it. Also good on you OP of making a gift of your time in exchange for a donation to a charity. You're an awesome human and I hope your DMing business picks up!
These prices sound totally fair. I’m assuming this is for an online dm through a website like Roll20. I play in a monthly game with some buddies in person and we almost always spend at least $10 each between snacks, beer and pizza. If the players split this it would only be a couple bucks a person.
