LPT: If you eat unhealthily now and die sooner you won't have to pay for food as long as healthy people because you will be dead.
Eating healthy, at least in the sense of cooking balanced meals at home and not getting fast food all the time, tends to be cheaper. You just pay for the difference in time and effort.
> think of it as a reduction of future medical bills with a higher-than-market return
In addition, you'll probably feel better in general day-to-day. I've found the older I get, the more I notice the benefits of eating well.
But I live in the UK where health care is free!!
I find that eating good food is much cheaper. Occasionally I buy more expensive healthy food, but that's just because it's fresher
It's only more expensive if you're unable to go to the grocery store or boil water for some reason.
*laughs in British*
Honestly how is healthy eating mord expensive. Chicken thighs, sweet potatoes and frozen veg is really affordable. Hell chicken breast, rice and roasted fresh vegetables is probably still cheaper than McDonald's.
EU chiming in. What medical bills?
Eating healthy isn't even expensive. The healthiest diet if you measure health via reducing the risk of disease is a vegan diet. A vegan diet, when done correctly, has shown the greatest reduction in risk of heart disease, cancer, and diabetes - it even reverses heart disease in many cases.
People think vegan diets are expensive but they're actually much cheaper if you buy quality foods. Just buy rice, beans, lentils, mushrooms, and sweet potatoes for calories. Buy dark leafy greens for micro nutrients. And have flax seed for other essential nutrients. There are some other things that should be added for maximizing health but these are essential and still incredibly cheap.
The most expensive food in that list is the dark leafy greens which I'm sure everyone can agree should be a large staple of any diet even claiming to be healthy. Everything else is among the cheapest food you can possibly buy.
Is this really a LPT? Everyone knows eating healthy is better for you. This just seems like reaching for self justification.
