‘The Shape of Water’ is very similar to this 2015 student short film from the Netherlands ‘The Space Between Us’. Both main characters are cleaning ladies who work in a research facility. They both fall for a fish man. Even the production design and some of the story beats are alike.

238 JustinDC123 I don’t see why he would. They make a good profit and I’m sure Disney would like to diversify a little bit. I’m guessing they’ll interfere with big properties but leave a lot of stuff generally the way it is because it’s worked for several years so why change it? Edit: Also, I hate when people say Disney wont release R-rated movies like Deadpool anymore because there’s obviously a market for that and by putting it under the Fox name it doesn’t mess with their reputation at all.
41 dwbassuk I don't see why they would. Its not like Disney bought FOX to only go on to only make Disney movies, something they didn't need to spend 50 billion dollars to do.
13 CountJohn12 As others have said, the issue here is the money. Fox Searchlight puts out excellent stuff on a regular basis but not all of it makes money. It's something they do for prestige and/or a public service. So I could theoretically see Disney scrapping it at some point or changing their output to more commercial stuff. If they do I'll be majorly pissed.
11 Baktab There's a possibility that they will. People should atleast acknowledge that. Disney has established itself as a blockbuster studio and that's all they're doing right now. They might release smaller budget and R rated movies under Fox's banner...or they might not. *The biggest win Disney got with this acquiry is not Fox's Oscar division.* It's stuff like the X-Men, Avatar, Kingsmen, Alien, Predator and Planet of the Apes that's gonna bring them the most cash. And Disney ain't our friend. It's a corporation mainly interested in the biggest profit margains. The other guy listing EA and their microtransactions as an example makes an excellent point.
17 MySonsdram Never thought I'd see my dad on the front page of /r/movies.
2 Baseballaholic Anyone think it's a problem that Disney can just buy everything?
26 Skepticsnail Lol. They will. This is Disney. They have to have their hands in everything. This is the reason why Harry Potter didn't wind up at their parks. Disney has to have full control over their Ips Let me give you an example to help illustrate. "why would EA buy (insert studio here) if all they wanted was to push micro transactions? They already have their soccer games making a killing." and yet this is exactly what they do. They too like money. Already downvoted. The mouse has a long reach.
