Where Are The Great Revolutionary War Films?
Male Leads with Repressed Rage
163 JimJamHargision Tbh, every film nominated here is definitely deserving of the award. “Apes” has lost both times it was previously nominated, and with each film the visuals have only improved, so if it wins its well deserved. The VFX are the film’s strongest asset.
43 lacourseauxetoiles While it is, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes won the Critics Choice Award and the most VES awards too. Blade Runner 2049 still has a decent chance to win.
26 Squeezycakes17 deservedly so - by the end of War i felt that Caesar was as real and as complex as any character i've seen on screen
12 TurnNburn Real question here, how do you gauge how "on track" a movie is at beating another for an Oscar? Is there a points system?
18 AnAndalusianHippo Thank god you put the years behind them, I might have been confused and thought you meant Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (1911).
5 hplp "on track to beat" really means nothing when it comes to Oscars and academy voters especially. Ex Machina was at the bottom of every "expert" prediction list and won. Golden Compass over Transformers 1 was another case where the least favorite won over the heavy favorite. (Trans1 won the VES award that year too). You never know with this one.
6 FitzgeraldKingley Blade Runner is a master piece! Really blown away by the creative arts!
9 bjcarl14 As long as War, 2049, or the Last Jedi win, I’ll be happy. The effects in Guardians and Kong are fine, but they’re not at the same level as the other 3.
6 mrhoundoom all deserving to be fully honest but im rooting for blade runner
5 Rambots Sounds fair
4 Regulater86 Yeah, so was Michal Keaton for Birdman, how'd that turn out
2 ucheobidi Deservedly. Blade Runner 2049 is astounding, every nominee is worthy actually but I just personally want War for the Planet of the Apes to take it. To make the journey complete. A win for all the previous nominations.
2 -IamCorrect- I absolutely loved those movies. Tbh, I scoffed at them for years. (for no reason, I guess) My family and I watched all three in less than a week, and I absolutely _love_ them. Caesar is awesome. Stunning vfx, btw.
2 LegendaryOutlaw The best CG is the kind you can’t tell is CG. I repeatedly forgot these weren’t real apes while watching this movie. For me, they weren’t life-like, they were alive.
2 JeffTennis Should go down to Blade Runner or Apes. Shame Apes had to wait this long, because Blade Runner at least get Deakins his Oscar.
2 JaxtellerMC As it should, nothing comes close to it except Avatar (which is astounding since it’s basically ten years old)
2 Spacer1138 Most deserved, imho. They broke the uncanny valley.
5 LakenBrion Very fair. Apes was very well done with it's visual effects. They deserve it.
1 Tar-eruntalion all of these are remarkable in their own way and deserve the award
1 xpowa Having not seen it but knowing a location they filmed at and completely changing it in Post. I say.. I can see it.
1 Sabu_mark If Roger Deakins doesn't win this year then they may as well inscribe "NO DEAKINSES" on the base of the statue.
1 herzoggg Since the awards are a perennial disappointment, I suspect Blade Runner 2049 won't win as it should.
