389 omonundro It's not civil disobedience if it's not disobedient. It should be handled exactly like a walkout in support of repeal of the NFA.
335 Rinascimentale Makes sense. They're breaking school rules. There's nothing brave about taking a stand if you're free from possible consequences.
37 WillfullTiger Didn't read the article as it's all classified until you do a survey. Sorry for my ignorance and/or lack of ability to google search, but would someone mind explaining why students are holding a national walkout?
34 l_am_very_sMaRt lo'ld at $40,000 badges that don't do anything except provide ID. They could pay me the same and I'd have it done by the end of the day for a few hundred at Kinko's if that's still a thing.
105 thejuh The answer is for all the students to walk out, forcing all the teachers to stay to monitor detention. Malicious compliance is the best kind.
28 masterfireball Teenager in Arkansas here, I feel like I should address some stuff. Yes, this punishment is justified, protest or not. Personally, I would prefer protesting somewhere like Little Rock or at a government building, rather than wasting time when I have work to do in school(wait a second, I'm on Reddit), which is why I'm not participating, I also don't want to get in trouble, which is in the school's jurisdiction since students are up and leaving, and I don't know about Bentonville, but in my school an absence is an absence unless you have a doctor's note or some other official document, parent notes are a different thing. And yeah, I don't want to get shot either, but I have work to do, if I'm going to protest, which I want to do, I'm going to disrupt government officials and waste their time, not mine or my teachers. However, I respect my fellow classmates that will be walking out, it's their choice, and I like the reason of the protest, not the execution of the protest. EDIT: Formatting
13 Xatencio00 I mean, yeah, this isn't a school-sponsored event. You're required to be at school.
8 LostAllMyBitcoin Easy detention, no problem
59 Iz-kan-reddit The punishment should be exactly the same for walking out to protest school violence, walking out to protest abortion and walking out because you want to play hooky for the day. Politics needs to be left out of school attendance policies.
27 StarkweatherRoadTrip Let's stage a walkout on not paying our property taxes untill the government makes them go back to school.
