At a cost of $39.99/month, plus e-ticketing transaction costs. And it excludes all 3D and IMAX films. And, of course, it doesn't allow you to see films at non-AMC theaters.
So everyone continually mentions how MP must be losing money over fist due to the cheap $10/mo fee and while it makes sense to me since movies generally cost more than $10 to see, I don't understand. Netflix is essentially $10/mo and they spend hundreds of millions on rights to various shows etc so what's the difference? Surely MP will make do if they have enough people who'll sign up for this, no? Maybe I'm wrong in assuming Netflix is well off, I haven't really looked into it.
People are assuming Disney is pumping out marvel film every month but that's not the case. Summer is pure loss for movie pass but the other slow seasons are where they make up the loss and actually generate money. For every avengers release month we have emoji movie months if the analogy makes sense
For anyone thinking of signing up: I'd hold off for another month or two. Most of us who signed up on day 1 (Aug 15) still haven't received anything. We were supposed to receive our cards by Sep 10 at the latest. A couple days ago the CEO admitted that many of the day 1 cards hadn't even been shipped yet. Today they said on Twitter that new customers would likely have to wait 5 weeks for their card. Turns out that Moviepass didn't think it would be a good idea to upgrade their infrastructure before drastically changing their business model. All in all it's been a pretty disastrous launch. Hopefully they'll be able to to get things up and running before the end of the year, but right now things are not looking good.
Did anyone get their moviepass card? Shit its been a month now and mine never arrived...
How does movie pass work at theaters that are reserved seating? like you pick your own recliner? I read online that Movie pass "buys" your ticket when you're there. So I am kind of curious how it works.
its* $9.99 price drop
it's = it is
Didn't MoviePass pay the full price of a ticket to those that agreed to accept MP? I don't see how MP dropping their price would hurt them.
