WHY - WHY WAS I PROGRAMMED TO FEEL PAIN
Also, that awkward scene with Data and skin on his face
We'll all think its cool when someone loses a hand to an industrial accident or an overbearing father and the replacement hand is lifelike but between this, strides in AI and robots that can open doors, jump and now have been taught to catch we really won't be satisfied till someone builds a T-800 and it runs amuck
I've always imagined something like this on prosthetics. The hand of the prosthetic could have receptive skin while a patch elsewhere on the body could have a matching "output" skin. I'm sure your brain could be trained to consider the output to be the new limb's sensations. The output could be something like an array of very subtle electric shocks or very small vibrating motors. I'm not sure what is out there that can produce something like the sensation of varied pressure.
So, this means.....
Robots might start fapping soon?
First they want to vote, now a sense of touch!?
Robot rights is a slippery slope. What's next? Medically insured birth control?
