> To determine if PRDM16 plays a role in nerve development, Chi studied subcutaneous fat tissue from mice that lack the protein in fat cells while exposing some of these animals to cold. The resulting images showed a “striking reduction” in neurite projections when compared to images from mice with the protein.
Great. Let's figure out a way for fat cells to produce or absorb this protein in order to maybe promote nerve cells to project their way into the fat tissue instead of teaching people not to over eat.
Energy homeostasis and the fact that obesity results in some kind of permanent change of physiology indicates that 1) obesity is multi factorial and 2) eating strategies and or other psychological methods are held up by changes in physiology due to damage caused by obesity. Solution would require multi-factorial approaches from psychology (example: CBT) to physiology (gene therapy, pharmacology, surgery (not sure if I like that), etc). Focal points of target are also random from brain to organs.
