I enjoyed the show for what it was but I think it suffered from a number of problems, in particular the over reliance on deus ex machina and having internal conflict in the main cast (as opposed to a unified family experiencing external conflict).
Honestly in the earlier episodes Maureen came off as abusive. Gas-lighting her children and holding past transgressions over her husband's head.
It was surprisingly entertaining, but FFFUUUCK Will. Almost everything bad that happens is because of him. Fucking little shit. I wanted to reach into my television and smack the shit out of him.
I'll never understand why Netflix can throw a Game Of Thrones budget at this and can't give the likes of Daredevil a bit more cash.
It's like PG Rimworld complete with that one pawn that keeps trying to get everyone killed.
I was curious about this, but when I asked my dad about he he went on a long rant on how much it sucked.
I liked the show fine. I accept it's aimed at a family audience, it's got a cutesy veneer intended to make parents OK with their 8 year olds watching it. It's also in keeping with the original's campy tone (which was campy at the time, not just in retrospect). It isn't intended for old people like me. But I like the reimagined "Dr. Smith" played by Parker Posey, and the reimagining of the Robot.
