Man, this is super interesting! I love reading about the very early days of Internet fandom and discussions!
Feels slightly weird that they talk about him reviewing DS9, as I first knew of him from when he synopsized and reviewed TNG episodes - super useful given that I was in the UK, and had to wait a couple of weeks (if lucky) or several months (if not) for VHS copies from US transmissions to circulate through the fan network to my group of friends.
Nice to see that the Mike "Vidiot" Brown TNG guide that made use of Tim Lynch's synopses [is still available](ftp://vidiot.com/pub/st-tng/guide/
) - God knows how much hammering my university's laser printers took from me churning out multiple copies of that over the time I was there.
There were weekly recaps of the first season of TNG I read on Usenet. I still remember the recapper calling that one drone - The SuperBowl Trophy Gone Bad. This DS9 stuff is years later.
I was there at the beginning. Before Google broke DejaNews, I used to go back and look at my old 90's Usenet posts.
