Don't they train themselves by eating huge amounts of low calorie, high fiber food?
Heard they eat mass amounts of lettuce to train themselves for all that bulk.
Watched a documentary one time where some competive eater ate 4 pounds of lettuce with red wine vinegar a day before his competition in order to stretch out his stomach

Oh whoa, that... actually kinda does make sense. Extra weight on your belly would put extra pressure on your organs, wouldn't it? Not enough to cause problems, but enough to cause that.
It certainly explains why I'm 5', fairly thin, and still able to put away a large fast food meal no problem when my appetite doesn't randomly drop.
Yeah except those 600lb landmasses still manage to eat 3 meals worth of food in a sitting and they have 5 sittings a day.
This is what I thought when I was fat. I would struggle to finish my meal when I ate out at restaurants.
Now I'm not fat (not really thin either though) I usually clean the plate with no problems.
Although in hindsight, it may have been all the snacks I had before the meal that were ruining my appetite.

As the study mentions the vagus nerve, would not a lot of these speed eaters with their "no chew, just swallow" significantly cut down on the 'feeling full' signals?
