MapleStory and 3DS Pokemon games have this same problem. I can't say words like "spicy" and "chores" in Maple chat, and I can't use the nickname Violetta or Viola in Pokemon because they contain "viol", which is apparently French for "rape". Which is especially weird because ONE OF THE CHARACTERS IN XY IS NAMED VIOLA
Wouldn't it be the "Svaginahorpe Problem"?
I remember seeing someone get permabanned by the moderator bot in an online chatroom back in the late '90s for saying they were from Scunthorpe.
This happened in the Pokemon games when they brought filters in, they had to figure out how to still allow Pokemon like Nosepass and Cofagrigus.
Scunthorpe is the Scunthorpe problem.
This is why regular expression engines, even basic, non-extended ones, have word boundary atoms.
Yes, `/ass/` matches "assassinate", but `/[[:<:]]ass[[:>:]]/` doesn't, while still matching "ass".
I really want to use "buttbuttinate" as a username somewhere.
Those of you who recognize this one...well, you know who you are.
I live in the county of Middlesex, UK. I got a call from an American bookstore recently querying the address on an order I had made. On their order sheet my address had been changed to Middle***.
I remember when my school first got a word filter system put into all the computers.
It blocked us from reading about the Mars Explorer Rover since it had the word "sex" in it.
