Fun Shirley Temple fact... when I was a kid in the sixties, she married and changed her name to Shirley Temple Black. As a seven-year-old, I thought there were two of them: regular Shirley Temple and a black one.
She also hated her namesake drink.
TIL that Shirley Temple grew up to be super attractive. Kinda feels gross and creepy to say that, but at the same time she was born 60 years before me, so ????
She was the United State Ambassador to Ghana many years before her Czechoslovakia appointment.
I met her while she was ambassador there. My parents were foreign service officers, so my dad had to deal with her often. I remember her being very sweet and well-liked.
She was fine AF when she grew up. Like - in her twenties? Lordy Jesus.
Years ago I listened to her speak at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco with my father. When she was done, people got up to leave - we went up to meet her and say hello. Though I was quite young at the time, I still clearly remember the opportunity to shake her hand.
TIL Shirley Temple was alive until 2014! For some reason, I always assumed she's passed away a long time ago. Also had never seen her outside of the early movies so was interesting to see what she looked like as an adult (plus her achievements of course)
I also listened to Ask Me Another this weekend.
You were listening to "Ask me another" the other day, weren't you? The interview with Melissa Joan Hart was awesome!
The greatest child star of all time.
Eighty years later her on screen charisma has not diminished unlike many other actors and actresses from the same era, who by today's standards look and sound weird.
When she passed I heard about a drink named for her. Well, we all knew the Shirley Temple, Grenadine and soda. But when she got married they added vodka to the Shirley Temple and called it the Shirley Temple Black.
