The amount of effort this guy puts into his cooking is unbelievable. I wonder how many tries it took to get the correct ratio of the laundry list of ingredients.
Also he made his own nuggets, which is cool.
Thanks for posting /u/QuDubz!! And thank you /u/therealduckie for the sample of your winnings - I hope this allows many many folks at home to try the storied condiment for themselves. Sorry for the delayed post today, last week was fucking nutty, I literally finished the voice-over like 30 minutes ago!
Yeast extract is industry for MSG.
Source, I work in the industry.
Hey /u/OliverBabish, great episode! Two small things for you to keep in mind. Ingredients lists are listed in descending order, but that is only required by law for any material over 1% concentration by weight (pretty sure thats the cut off for food). Also, if you mix the xanthan gum into the corn syrup before you add it you shouldnt see any lumps. Xanthan gum is finicky like that.
I can't believe he actually made the nuggets. This is amazing.
He's now made several versions.
* An authentic Szechuan Sauce
* A Reddit user's Szechuan Sauce
* A mixture of McD Sauces
* A mixture of his sauces
* A true copycat recipe based on tasting and comparing the actual sauce
After watching both of these videos, I still want to get around to make the reddit user's version; It seems to be the best.
This video was a little disappointing in a way, because it kind of killed the hype. "I GOT THE SAUCE!!! meh. Now lets make it I guess."
Just makes me go back and watch what I assume are much better versions of the sauce.
McDonalds hot mustard sauce
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup corn syrup
1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon white vinegar
4 tsp corn starch
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 tsp tumeric
10-14 drops habinero hot sauce
slowly heat to boil all but cornstarch and 1/4 cup of water, when boiling mix in cornstarch and water. chill
